What is bioplastic?

Technically, all plastics are biodegradable. But for practical purposes, only materials that degrade within a short period of time (usually weeks to months) are considered biodegradable. Not all "bio-based" plastics are biodegradable. In contrast, some petroleum-based plastics degrade faster than "bio-based" plastics under the right conditions.
According to the American Society for Materials and Testing, compostable plastics are plastics that can be biodegraded in a compost yard. These plastics cannot be distinguished from other types of plastics in appearance, but they can be broken down into carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds and biomass (biomass refers to various organisms formed through photosynthesis, including all animals and plants and microorganisms), And there are no toxic residues. The feature of no toxic residue is one of the characteristics that distinguishes compostable plastic from biodegradable plastic. It should also be noted that some plastics can be composted in home gardens, while others require commercial composting (temperatures rise much, and the composting process occurs faster).
Corn and sugar cane are the two most popular raw materials currently used to produce bioplastics. Of course, there are many other options. For example, waste from the processing of banana peels, mango peels, and potatoes is used to produce bioplastics and used to develop new packaging.
